While the Internet has been around for much longer, the World Wide Web, as we know it today, was created in October 1994. That is when someone transmittd the firts JPG image. The understanding was with that logic and additional bandwidth, audio would soon follow, and video was only a matter of time. Today's proliferation of video on the `Net is a direct result of the installation of broadband communications becomming ubiquitous in developed countries around the globe.
Our executive producer, Lee Roth, has been using the Internet for email since 1986. But when he saw the Web in January of 1995, Mr. Roth knew that was "the future" and launched one of the very first Web design studios in the industry. Located at the time in Newport Beach, California, Mr. Roth was in the proverbial "right place at the right time".
As most people are aware, research and development for many technology companies is based in Silicon Valley, California. And that region is, in fact, where much of the Web technology came about, back then, as well as ongoing today. Many of these same technology companies also have offices in Orange County, California, south of Los Angeles. These two regions play significant, yet very different roles in technology development, and implementation.
The difference you ask? Clearly, the technological research and discovery process is locatd in the Silicon Valley area. In Orange County, however, you have headquarters ofices, as well as the home of many sales and marketing teams. The result of these different roles is that in Silicon Valley, for the purposes of R&D, communications tend to be internal, and often confidential. You will find the exact opposite implementations in Orange County, where the focus turns external, towards publicity and the public. So while ideas may more often originate in Silicon Valley, they most often appear first in the public sector originating from Orange County.
Over the years, Lee Roth has produced or participated in many Internet firsts, particularly when it comes to the early days of live streaming video and online communities. Some of his notable Internet accomplishments are noted below.
